Indian Curriculum

The Indian curriculum provides students with exciting opportunities closely linked with secondary school systems in Indian universities. High-achieving students can enroll in India's top higher education institutions and the curriculum itself is globally respected and recognized. In India, several curricula and school education boards govern the education system, developing syllabi, resources, and standardized examinations aligned with the National Curriculum Framework for Grades 9-12.

Abu Dhabi's Indian schools affiliate with the Central Board of Secondary Education and the Kerala State Education Board. In primary school, the curriculum focuses on general education, covering basic subjects such as Reading and Writing, Arithmetic, Geography, History, General Science, and Civics. In secondary school, the curriculum offers a specialized approach to core subjects, allowing students to explore a wide range of subjects, including Business Studies, Language, IT, and Arts.

Progression
  • While compulsory education begins at age 6, many Indian schools offer up to four years of optional pre-schooling to prepare children for formal schooling.
  • The academic year for Indian schools runs from April to March.
  • Students complete either 10 years of schooling to obtain a Secondary School Certificate (SSC) or 12 years of schooling to obtain a Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC).

Accreditation
  • Indian schools are required to participate in affiliation schemes developed by the various curriculum and school education boards in India, e.g., the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Kerala State Education Board (KSEB).
  • By becoming affiliated, schools establish a recognized association or ‘partnership’ with a board of their choice. Without affiliation, schools cannot deliver courses or administer associated examinations up to Grade 12.
