Canadian Curriculum

The Canadian curriculum schools in Abu Dhabi offer two curricula: the Alberta and Nova Scotia curricula. Each framework governs elementary, secondary, and post-secondary education programs.

In addition to the core subjects of English Language, Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, these curricula include specific subjects to develop various competencies and various electives tailored to students' interests:

  1. The Alberta curriculum includes Career and Life Management, Physical Education, Career and Technology Studies, and various electives.
  2. The Nova Scotia curriculum includes Healthy Living, Personal Development and Society, Global Studies, and various electives.
Progression
  • Kindergarten enrolment starts at ages 4-5.
  • Students complete 12 years of schooling to receive a high school diploma, provided they complete the credits required by their respective province.

  • Grades 3,6, and 9 take Annual Provincial Achievement Tests (PAT).

  • Alberta Education works with international schools to enable them to offer the Alberta curriculum and its associated qualification, the Alberta High School Diploma, to students. To become an Alberta Accredited International School (AAIS), schools must undergo a process of school inspection and continuous monitoring of the school’s compliance with the requirements of accreditation.
